ABOUT "BATMAN: THE ACE OF DETECTIVES":

"Batman: The Ace of Detectives" is an ongoing monthly serial adventure based on the modern incarnation of the character in DC Comics.

Here's the thing...Jeffrey has been asking me for goingon two years now to write a new intro for this page. Sertan, the gentleman who wrote and directed the show previously, passed those duties on to me a while ago. But every time Isit down to write something, I run into a brick wall. Imean, what do you say?

He's Batman. The Caped Crusader. A guy who saw hisfolks gunned down right before his eyes. A guy who can'tstand the thought of it happening to anybody else. One ofthe richest men on Earth, who has sacrificed his happinessto a city. A man almost no one really understands.

When we first meet him in this series, he's damagedgoods. A particularly nasty villain has put him through thewringer and he's forgotten how to trust. He's cutoff from everyone except his surrogate father and hisadopted son. Even the woman he loves is on the outside, looking in. He loses so much. And it just gets worse, to thepoint that he breaks. And then...

Sertan said his goal was to teach Batman and Bruce Waynesome very important lessons. I think we've done that.I'm not sure they're the lessons Sertan wanted toteach him, but I do think they're the ones he needed tolearn.

What happens now? Family reunions. Villains who may not bevillains. Enemies who might be heroes. Things that once wentwrong will get much worse. Someone will go much, much toofar. A glimpse of the future leads to a battle in thepresent. Mystery. Romance. High adventure. Gorillas withautomatic weapons.

He's Batman. He doesn't want anyone to die. Andhe'll keep fighting for as long as it takes. Buthe's not alone anymore.

Pete Milan
Writer & Director, "Batman: The Ace of Detectives"

---

For a large part of my (youth-ier?) youth, I resented Batman. No, really. I did, because a childhood friend of mine was a Batman fan and I was a Superman fan and we'd always argue about who would win if the two had a fight. We never really got anywhere, but come on: it's no competition. Superman wins. Easy.

So you're probably thinking what the hell I'm doing writing a Batman audio play. As I grew older, I started to love Batman. He's a fantastic character.

How'd I get this job? Jeff was super-kind enough to read a near-complete draft of a fan script that I'm still working on (after all this time!); my take on the origins of Superman, why he does what he does, that sort of thing. He said it was pretty impressive. I said I know it is. He said drop the egotistic attitude. I said stupid-people-say-what very fast. He said what. True story.

Actually, no. The truth is I started crying with joy and rolled around on the floor like a baby. This is before he gave me the job. I won't tell you what I did after.

If there's anything I'm most proud of about this project, it's that I hit the jackpot with casting the roles. I never dreamed that such talented people would play in this show. So when you listen to the fantastic final product of "The Ace of Detectives", all thanks go to them. They deserve it.

When writing this show, my absolute goal is to teach Batman and his alter ego Bruce Wayne some very important lessons. Not about life in general or anything like that, but about the reason why he began this quest to cleanse Gotham city of crime and corruption. His parents were killed in front of his eyes and as he grew, he swore to turn fear on those who prey on the fearful. Right? Right. And he's done this for ten years as far as this audio play is concerned.

So, the question we will be addressing is: What has Batman changed in this time?

The answer, whatever that may be (I'm not sayin' nuthin'), is exactly the direction this audio play is heading and it's my hope that it'll be interesting and fun for you all.

Have a good one,

Sertan Saral
